“Board-Certified Pathology Review of Human Tissue Specimens Provide Fit-for-Purpose Specimens with Actionable Data”

In 2005, I joined what was then Asterand as Director of Pathology while continuing to work as a Hospital Pathologist. I felt it was important to remain in patient care as well as to work in the exciting are of bio-banking. I recruited and directed a team of pathologists to help meet the company’s needs.

As Director of Pathology, my team of pathologists and myself provide quality control for tissue and clinical data.  We confirm original diagnoses from donor sites on normal, diseased and neoplastic tissue. Our main role is to ensure that the tissue block is representative of the diagnosis that was issued by the donor site. It is important to note that each and every block from every case is reviewed by a board-certified pathologist to ensure the diagnosis of the block itself. This is important because while a patient may have a specific diagnosis, each block prepared from resected tissue may not represent that diagnosis. My team and I ensure that the exact block you receive is fit for your purpose by verifying the diagnosis. In some cases, we may use a variety of immunostains to definitively confirm or subclassify a tumor, providing additional information that may be important for your research.

We also provide data regarding the amount of necrosis, the overall quality of the tissue, the tumor grade and other information that may be helpful to you, such as various percentages of tumor or immune cell infiltrate in a tissue section.

I work on a variety of customer-specific and government projects, servicing specific customer needs in many different ways. For example, circling areas of tumor, normal, disease and necrosis on individual slides. Or more complex analysis such as quantitative measurement of tumor surface area or interpretation of research or prognostic immunostains.

I am always available for various medical/pathology related questions to assist customer needs or help with customer project design. I’m passionate about providing the highest level of pathology analysis and assistance by myself and my team and helping BioIVT to have the highest standards to provide the greatest service we can to you, our customers.
