However, several issues need to be resolved before it can reach its full potential. Access to relevant specimens is an essential part of any discovery and development research program, but the complexity and cost associated with procuring these samples can be daunting. While no universal standard for liquid biopsy biobanking exists, there are known collection conditions that can influence analytical variability and reduce the risk of failure rates. Further, validation of molecular biomarkers requires access to a heterogeneous cohort of disease-state and control donors to support clinical utility.
