## Event Overview

In this webinar, we will discuss how a sandwich-cultured human hepatocyte (SCHH) model was used to investigate the DDI potential of bempedoic acid, a drug indicated for hypercholesterolemia. Also known as Nexletol®, bempedoic acid was approved by the FDA in 2020. It is a first-in-class, adenosine triphosphate-citrate lyase (ACL) inhibitor for the treatment of adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease who require additional lowering of LDL-C.

Dr. Maurice Emery, Executive Director, Esperion Therapeutics, will review the results of a study to assess the effect of bempedoic acid on the hepatic disposition of warfarin and naproxen, two well-characterized, OAT2 substrates. He will also discuss the potential clinical implications of this work.
Dr. Kenneth R Brouwer, VP ADME-Tox, BioIVT, will discuss the SCHH model, a “whole-cell” system that can improve IVIVC investigation of transporter-mediated hepatic disposition.

Attend our webinar for an engaging discussion of the following topics:
• Bempedoic acid pharmacokinetic interactions with warfarin and naproxen
• The benefits of a SCHH model for DDI disposition studies
• OAT2-mediated hepatic uptake in pharmacokinetics

 Kenneth R. Brouwer, PhD, RPH

 Vice President, ADME-Tox Research, BioIVT

| **Kenneth R. Brouwer, PhD, RPH, is Vice President**, ADME-Tox Research at BioIVT. A pharmacologist by training, Dr. Brouwer has led *in vitro* ADME programs at GSK and at PPD. He later led development of B-CLEAR technology, a method to quantitate hepatobiliary excretion. He was a founder of Qualyst Transporter Solutions, where he expanded applications of B-CLEAR technology and developed assays that integrate uptake, efflux, and regulatory function of cells. In 2017, BioIVT acquired Qualyst, and Dr. Brouwer now helps biopharmaceutical clients design and implement *in vitro* ADME research programs to achieve their drug R&D and regulatory submission objectives. |
